Disney announces ‘Ice Age: Boiling Point’ for 2027

Disney officially announced “Ice Age: Boiling Point” as the title for the sixth installment in the beloved animated franchise, setting a theatrical release date of February 5, 2027, during the Destination D23 event in Orlando, Florida.
• The film promises a “dinosaur-and-lava-filled madcap adventure” that will take Manny, Sid, Diego, Ellie, Scrat and the rest of the herd to explore never-before-seen areas of the treacherous Lost World.
• Original voice cast members Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Queen Latifah, and Simon Pegg will reprise their iconic roles as the beloved prehistoric characters.
• This marks the first theatrical Ice Age film in over a decade since 2016’s “Collision Course” and the first not produced by Blue Sky Studios, which Disney shut down in April 2021 due to COVID-19’s economic impact.
• The Ice Age franchise has generated over $3.2 billion in worldwide box office revenue across five films, making it one of Disney’s most valuable animated properties despite the previous film’s decline to $408.5 million globally.
Why it matters
Disney’s revival of the Ice Age franchise after an 11-year hiatus signals the studio’s confidence in established IP to drive theatrical revenue. With the franchise generating $3.2B globally and Disney transitioning production from defunct Blue Sky Studios, this represents a critical test of whether legacy animated properties can still draw audiences in an increasingly competitive streaming landscape.
