Pahalgam Terror Attack: JD Vance Urges India – Pakistan to Avoid Wider Conflict

Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir

– Following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, US Senator JD Vance has called for calm and urged both India and Pakistan to avoid any actions that could escalate the situation into a wider conflict. The attack, details of which are still emerging, has claimed 26 lives and injured many more.

Senator Vance expressed his condolences to the victims and their families in a statement released earlier today. “The violence in Pahalgam is a tragedy and a reminder of the persistent threat of terrorism in the region,” he said. “The United States stands with the people of India in condemning this heinous act.”

While acknowledging India’s right to self-defense, Vance stressed the importance of restraint. He urged both India and Pakistan to engage in dialogue and pursue diplomatic solutions to prevent further bloodshed. “Escalation benefits no one,” he stated. “A wider conflict would have devastating consequences for the region and beyond.”

The Senator also pledged continued US support in the fight against terrorism. He emphasized the need for international cooperation to address the root causes of extremism and to dismantle terrorist networks. He stated that the US is committed to working with its partners in the region, including India, to strengthen counterterrorism efforts and enhance regional security.

Indian officials have yet to formally respond to Senator Vance’s statement. Pakistan has condemned the attack and denied any involvement. The situation remains tense, and security forces have been deployed in Pahalgam and surrounding areas. Investigations into the attack are ongoing.
